Beat the Heat
That East Texas Summer is here, and with it comes the 100+ temperatures that can turn your home into an oven. At Conquest Property Management, we understand how important it is to stay cool and safe during these dog days of summer. Whether you’re a long-time renter or new to your place, these essential tips will help you manage the heat and keep your home comfortable.
- Adjust Your Thermostat Wisely – Use your air conditioning strategically. Set your thermostat to a comfortable, but not overly cold, temperature—typically between 75-78°F. Extreme cooling can strain the unit and increase your energy bill.
- Keep Blinds and Curtains Closed – Blocking out the sun can significantly reduce indoor temperatures. Close blinds and curtains during the hottest part of the day, usually between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- Ceiling Fans – Ceiling fans should rotate counterclockwise in the summer to push cooler air down. For standalone fans, position them near windows or doors to enhance cross-ventilation. If you’re using a window AC unit, placing a fan behind it can help distribute cool air more evenly throughout the room.
- Cook Smart – Avoid using the oven or stove during the hottest parts of the day, as they can raise indoor temperatures. Instead, opt for microwave meals, salads, or grill outside if possible. When using the stove, cover pots and pans to prevent excess heat from escaping into your kitchen.
